# A K---------- I N "**_A techno-social protocol for Network Societies_**" ## **Abstract** Akin introduces a framework and its initial implementation for creating network societies. Addressing the definition, scalability, interconnectedness, community engagement, and structural issues that arise from classic and emergent state-building processes. This initiative is based on proactive engagement and structured evolution, intentionally designed to spark action among its members. The network contains an immutable core called System Definition, complemented by quests that align all nodes with three phases: 1) Bootstrapping, 2) Growth, and 3) Maturity. Our journey begins gathering resources and talent, transitioning towards the delivery and expansion of services, all with the goal of self-sufficiency and decentralization. The system evolves through versioned updates, mirroring the iterative improvements seen in software development. Each version serves as a thorough record of the network's changes and growth, capturing our journey. To ensure continuous progress, AI serves as a tie breaker for agreement, encouraging consensus and ensuring that we move forward. ## **Introduction** The creation of network states is often conceptualized as an ensemble of startup cities. These initiatives typically adopt the startup ethos: from pitch decks to courting key investors, all while lacking a concrete strategy. This journey, marked by ambitious pitches and the chase for investment, tends to skip over the essence of what truly forms a society: the bonds of kinship and the mechanics of commerce. With technology, we are position for unparalleled possibilities. However, abstract concepts and the desire to construct indiscriminately might distract us. Akin grounds our efforts in foundations of community and economic activity, guaranteeing that the huge mission of establishing network states does not become a fad, like a startup without a clear direction. We envision a path that takes advantage of existing systems, rather than starting again or relying too much on large investors. Akin's emphasis on economic viability is critical, not only for individual enterprises but also for the larger community of networked civilizations. Competing on the world stage doesn't require reinventing the wheel; instead, we can start by building on what works, using technology to bolster our efforts. At the core of Akin is to create and link safe spaces—our foundation for fostering tomorrow's citizens. These spaces are designed to foster action, creativity, connection, and resilience worldwide. Akin promotes active engagement, which is backed up with a structure and economic model that fosters direct involvement in all of its initiatives. Our System Definition and Quest systems are intended to encourage collaboration, progress, and openness, making the complicated process of nation-building more accessible while also solving common scaling and governance concerns. The evolution is documented through System Versions, similar to software, with each update marking a new chapter in our growth. These records are not just a recount of our past; they guide our community learning from our history to shape our future. In the following sections, there is a clear distinction between Akin Framework and Akin Network. This difference is critical since the Akin Network acts as both a proof of concept and a live demonstration of the framework in operation. After all, who would we be if we didn't live under the bridge we have designed? ## **Framework Components** ### _System Version_ --- System Versions function as milestones in the network's evolution. Each version is a comprehensive update that encapsulates changes, improvements, and new features added over time. These versions serve as a historical record, providing a clear timeline of the network's development and growth. They are not just records but also tools for reflection and analysis, aiding both the citizens and AI systems in making informed decisions about the network's future. Versions are named systematically (e.g., 1.0.0, 2.0.0) to denote major updates, minor enhancements, and patches, reflecting the network's continuous development and adaptability. ### *System Definition (Immutable)* --- The System Definition constitutes the immutable heart of the network, embodying its highest ideals and objectives, which could include ethical standards and foundational rules. This core aspect is designed to remain unaltered, ensuring the network's integrity and purpose are preserved over time. Should there arise a desire to pursue alternative principles or goals, the only path is to initiate a new network—essentially, to fork. ### _Quests_ --- Quests are incentivized action sequences defined by the network. Network participants come together on some frequency (e.g. quarterly) to decide on a set of quests, guided by the core principles. These quests can be expanded upon but not removed once they're set in motion, and any changes require agreement from the network. Each quest comes with a reward in tokens for those who complete it. Attached to every bounty is a clear criterion for how success is measured. For instance, if the quest is to create a website for the network, we first evaluate the potential costs and then set that amount as the reward. These quests are more than just tasks; they're a vital part of how new tokens are introduced into the system, aligning community efforts with the network's growth and values. ### _Nodes_ --- A node is essentially a functional and habitable unit within the network, fulfilling the network's basic criteria and adding value to its ecosystem. Nodes operate with full independence, managing their own structure, upkeep, and operational methods to stay effective, which includes criteria for the use of its spaces and services. Moreover, nodes have the capacity to initiate quests specific to their locality while also participating in broader network quests, enhancing the collective experience and contribution to the network's objectives. - ##### Node Traits ``` - Wallet (address): this is the address that represents the node on the network. - Avatar (image) - owner (address): could be a person or smart contract that represents a DAO, company... - location (latitude, longitude) - quests [ ] - services [ ] - goods or services that the node has on offer to the network (rooms to stay in, event space, workshop space, consulting services, cafe, yoga studio, farm produce) - health_score (integer) - network calculated score of the node’s fitness level - size (integer) - how much space does the node occupy (sq meters) - Status ``` - ##### Node Specifications Updatable Minimum specifications a node has to follow to be considered a part of the network. ### _Treasury_ --- The Treasury is the financial engine of the network state, tasked with managing resources wisely to foster the community's expansion and progress. More than just a reserve, it acts as a proactive distributor of funds, fueling the ecosystem's growth through support for everything from infrastructure endeavors to community-driven projects. ### _Citizens_ --- Citizens are the vital force driving the network state, deeply engaged in its evolution, governance, and cultural fabric. They actively shape the network through their participation and creativity. By embarking on quests, citizens contribute to the network's goals while enhancing their position within the community. The tokens they earn from these endeavors not only can be utilized to curate and consume network services but also contribute to their honor score. This score is crucial, as it directly influences their voting power and their role in decision-making processes. Citizens can allocate their tokens in ways that align with their needs, actively influencing the network's landscape. - ##### Citizens traits ``` - Wallet (address) - each citizen is represented by a cryptographic address that corresponds to their smart account - Avatar (image) - Symbol - Honor_score (integer) - network calculated score of the citizen’s trustworthiness ``` - ##### Honor_score - ##### Honor Formula $ \text{Honor\_score} = \text{tokens\_earned} \times \left( \frac{\sum_{i=1}^n (v_i \times w_i)}{\sum_{i=1}^n w_i} \right) $ Where: - $tokens\_earned$ is the number of tokens earned - $( v_i )$ represents the contribution from year $(i)$ - $( w_i )$ represents the weight assigned to year $(i)$ - $( n )$ is the total number of years or contributions. ## **Akin Network** The Akin Network, is the first implementation of this new framework. This network initiates with a centralized approach, embedding mechanisms for gradual decentralization. This method guarantees the engagement of committed founders to establish the culture and ensure a seamless beginning. As the network matures, it transitions towards decentralization to boost resilience and prevent the concentration of power. The governance model employs **_Honor_** for governance decisions, while the Network token facilitates rewards, staking, and transactions. Akin is conceptualized as an evolving entity, progressing through distinct phases. Its tokenomics and governance models adapt to these updates, with token emission influenced by network quests, member count, and the current system version. $ \text{Emission} = \text{goals} + \left(\frac{ \text{measureEffort}}{\text{numCitizens}}\right) $ Where: $ \text{measureEffort} = \text{NetworkQuest} \times \text{priority} $ The effort for each quest is precisely measured, mirroring the method used for quest bounties. This involves evaluating the potential cost of achieving a goal on the market with a stablecoin, a task delegated to designated individuals or groups compensated by the treasury and approved by the network. A unique incentive system is proposed for different types of nodes, enhancing rewards based on their category. This aims to address geographic diversity, such as increasing nodes in underrepresented areas, driven by the network's annual objectives. The system rewards early participants, acknowledging the risks they take with structured rewards that remain appealing to newcomers. It is designed to constantly evolve, aligning with its core principles. Nodes earn tokens for their contributions and maintenance efforts within the network. This reward system adjusts according to the network's phase. Reward Formula: $ \text{Rewards} = (\text{contribution\_network\_quest}) \times (\text{past\_contributions}) + 1 $ Throughout all phases, governance relies on "Honor" for voting, enabling proposals on any matter except changes to the System Definition. In the event of a tie or failure to meet a voting threshold, a consortium of commercial LLMs, informed by the network's system and plans, will decide. This AI-assisted decision-making process ensures an objective viewpoint on proposals. Initially, our curation targets individuals involved with Web3 until the release of version 2.0.0, after which we plan to broaden our scope. This strategy uses Web3 as a filtering mechanism, recognizing its potential impact across various sectors. We seek individuals from diverse fields who possess strong networks, exhibit positive traits, and are interested in integrating Web3 with their expertise, extending our network's reach and influence. ## **Versions** ### _0.0.0 Deployment_ --- The Deployment Phase marks the inception of the Akin Network, laying the foundational framework and activating all critical components, such as contracts, node specifications, network goals, and quests. > **System Definition (Immutable):** > > > _Financially sustainable, prohumans, meritocracy, Techno-optimism, mutualism, and aim to be self-sufficient._ **Objective**: This stage's primary goal is to deploy essential components, initiate the first nodes and citizens, and chart the network's developmental path. A significant milestone is the release of the Yellow Paper, detailing the network's philosophy and mechanics, alongside the introduction of a dynamic token contract. This contract adjusts emission rates based on network milestones and activity levels, ensuring a flexible and responsive economic model. `**Governance**:` Initially, governance rests with the founding team, known as the Vanguards, ensuring a guided and cohesive start. During this phase, Vanguards are granted bonds, representing a stake in the network's treasury, eligible for redemption after a predefined period. These bonds, varying in terms from 3 to 10 years, underscore the network's commitment to long-term growth and member engagement. `**Upgrade Threshold:**` Transition to the Bootstrapping Phase is contingent upon achieving specific benchmarks, including the selection of lead nodes, full deployment of the network components, and the publication of the Yellow Paper. ### _1.0.0 Bootstrapping_ --- ```mermaid flowchart LR A(Nodes) --> Citizens Citizens --> A(Nodes) Citizens --> Treasury Treasury --> A(Nodes) ``` **Objective:** gathering resources – establish an aligned community of members & nodes `**Governance Structure:**` Governance during the Bootstrapping Phase undergoes significant expansion to include a council that operates alongside the founders. This council comprises representatives from the early nodes, selected based on their contributions, commitment to the network's principles, and potential to drive forward the network's objectives. The founders, with their vision and strategic oversight, work in concert with the council to ensure decisions reflect both the foundational goals of the network and the evolving needs of the community. - Council Formation: The selection process for council members is designed to be transparent and merit-based, emphasizing the contributions and alignment of potential members with the network's core values. - Decision-Making Process: Proposals, primarily initiated by the founders to maintain strategic direction and focus, require approval from the council to ensure a broader consensus and incorporate diverse perspectives. This collaborative approach aims to balance visionary leadership with pragmatic insights from the network's early adopters. - Role of the Council: The council's responsibilities extend beyond just approving proposals. It plays a crucial role in guiding the network through its initial challenges, providing feedback on strategy, and facilitating engagement among the community of nodes and citizens. The council also acts as a mediator, ensuring that the decisions and policies implemented are in the best interest of the network's long-term sustainability. `**Economy Model:**` - Token Purchase Module: Activated to allow inflow of funds with no exit option at this stage, primarily to bolster housing and essential infrastructure initiatives. This closed economic loop is designed to stabilize the network's economy and support early growth. - Token Emission Rate: Increased to incentivize early participants, rewarding their risk and contribution with greater access to the network's resources. The token's value is anchored to stablecoins to ensure economic stability and predictability for early investors and participants. `**Citizenship Access:**` Two distinct pathways are introduced - the Contributor Visa and the Future Talent Visa, focusing on curating people. - Contributor Visa: payment of $x, can start a node and receive tokens to use. - Future Talent Visa, you can become a node. But can do quests to earn tokens. And you don't have honor until having earned the same amount of money as the cost of the contributor Visa. After that, you become a Full Citizen. `**Network:**` There is no interaction with people from outside of the community. `**Duration:**` 6-12 months `**Upgrade Indicator:**` Progression to the Growth Phase is marked by achieving a foundational community of 8 nodes and 32 individuals. ### _2.0.0 Growth_ --- ```mermaid flowchart RL Treasury --> Nodes Bonds --> Treasury Services --> Treasury Treasury --> Quests Outside --> Services Outside --> Bonds ``` **Objective:** The Growth Phase is focused on specialization and enhancing the network's competitive edge. The aim is to offer unique value propositions to members and differentiate in the marketplace through specialization. `**Governance**` - Node Governance: Governance transitions to being primarily node-driven, reflecting a decentralized approach where decisions are made closer to the network's operational level. Where proposals can be submitted by any member of the network, but only node operators have the right to vote on these proposals. This ensures that those responsible for the network's operational integrity have a direct say in its governance. - Foundation Creation: A foundation is established, and allocated a percentage of the treasury to manage. It operates guided by objectives approved by the community, focusing on strategic initiatives that drive the network's growth and stability. `**Economy Model:**` - Staking and Quest Modules: The introduction of staking and quest modules provides mechanisms for engagement and investment within the network, encouraging active participation and contribution. - Token Emission Adjustment: Token emissions are carefully adjusted to balance incentivization with economic sustainability, ensuring the network's long-term viability. - Asset Acquisition: The network starts acquiring assets, allowing the token economy to be backed not only by stablecoins but also by tangible and intangible assets, adding depth to the economic model. `**Community and Services:**` - Opening Bonds and Services: This phase marks the opening of the network to external interactions through bonds and services, facilitating global connectivity and integration. - Node Expansion: New nodes can be established with sponsorship from existing citizens, leveraging their honor as a measure of trust and contribution, fostering a merit-based growth model. `**Strategic Development:**` The foundation spearheads the transition to a "Full Economy Model," focusing on utilizing extra yield and treasury funds to enhance the network or support initiatives like node infrastructure improvement, healthcare, education, think tanks, incubators, and research labs. `**Citizenship Access**` We open the gate, and there is no curation process. We enable the same two paths for anyone. - Contributors - Talent `**Upgrade Indicator:**` Progression to the Maturity Phase is marked by the foundations getting the network's approval on the Full economy model. ### _3.0.0 Maturity_ --- ```mermaid flowchart TD Treasury --> Quests Citizens --> Fees Nodes --> Fees Fees --> Treasury Bonds --> Treasury Services --> Treasury Outside --> Services Outside --> Bonds ``` **Objective** This phase is dedicated to ensuring the network's resilience and diversification, focusing on self-sufficiency and the ability to meet all its needs while establishing trade relations with other networks. `**Governance**` bicameral governance between members and nodes. Up to the network to keep using the foundation or not. Any member can create a proposal, but only after a certain threshold will it appear to everyone. `**Economy**` initialize the full economy model. This is where it transitions from just housing to full economy – businesses, production, and services; token emission reaches a terminal rate - Tax Mechanism: A token burn mechanism is introduced as a form of taxation, ensuring economic contributions are reinvested into the network, supporting its growth and sustainability. `**Size**` open entry & exit. `**Citizenship Structure**` Retains the structured pathways for engagement. Contributors and Talent route remains available, ensuring a broad spectrum of participation in the network's economy. ## **Why does this matter?** Akin is more than a social club– it's a life-enriching playground for creativity, connection, and resilience.
